NUPGE Scholarships

Eligibility to Enter

To apply you must be a  child or grandchild (including foster child or foster grandchild) or a legal ward of a current or retired member of a Component or a Component's affiliate of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE). Note that, the Young Worker Scholarship is also open to members of NUPGE's Components and their affiliates.

You must also fill in an online application form and include an original 750-to-1000-word essay. Each scholarship has a unique essay topic that changes every year. Emailed, mailed, or faxed applications will not be accepted.

Each scholarship may also have additional eligibility requirements.

Scholarship deadlines have been extended to Friday, August 13, 2021.

Brian Fudge Memorial Scholarship

This is for students planning to enter a field of study in policing, criminal justice, community services or health care. You must be planning to enter the 1st year of a Canadian public, post-secondary education institution, full-time, in 2021/22.

Scholarship for Black Students

This is for Black students who are planning to enter the 1st year of a Canadian public, post-secondary education institution, full-time, in 2021/22.

Young Worker Scholarship

This is for students under the age of 30 who are attending or planning to enter a Canadian public, post-secondary education institution, full-time, in 2021/22. Note that this scholarship is also open to members of NUPGE Components or its Component's affiliates.

The Why Unions Matter Contest

The Why Unions Matter contest is not a scholarship. But most residents of Canada can enter for a chance to win $1,500.
